In 2000 Andre Camilleri moved from Malta to Australia, where he continues to follow his musical ambitions. Having served his apprenticeship playing the streets of Berlin and Malta’s capital Valletta, wearing his trademark cowboy hat, his world is one of nostalgic reflections, acute and often intimate observations, tales of heartbreak and disaffection, with the occasional dash of youthful optimism.
Expect a rich blend of blues and country flavoured tunes covering a diverse range of material: happy and sad songs, songs about booze, loose women, favourite horses, heartbreak, being on the road, social commentary, more drinking songs, more heartbreak, and a peculiar obsession with trains.
His band the Broken Hearts is currently receiving ample air play on ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation), RRR, PBS Radio and numerous international stations. The band performed two headline shows at the prestigious Melbourne Arts Festival (October 19, 20 2007) and is recording a second album CD, which is due to be released later in the year.
The Broken Hearts are Paul Thomas (Weddings, Parties, Anything) on steel guitar, James Stewart (Overnight Jones, T-Bones) on lead guitar, Chris Birnie (Alex Burns, Nick Charles) on bass and Maurie del Citto (April Seven, Rhumbats) on drums.
The Broken Hearts first album CD 'One Fine Day & Other Songs' is available on this site and distributed in Australia by Sound Vault Records.
